Sweet baby coo’s, feeding every two to three hours, dirty diapers, and newborn snuggles. These are just a few of the things intended parents have to look forward to when bringing home a newborn. As you’re considering your options to become a gay dad, remember that the path to parenthood varies greatly for same-sex couples, especially gay men hoping to become biological fathers. At CT Fertility, we are dedicated and determined to make parenthood a reality for gay men hoping to become fathers. Today, our fertility expert shares some of the options for your path to parenthood.

The cost of becoming gay dads may feel shocking! The exact cost is dependent on your specific scenario and the type of treatment you are seeking. It is natural to feel overwhelmed, but if you break each step in the process down by major milestone, the fertility process and cost seem more manageable. It is worth it to attain the family of you dreams!

The cost of becoming a gay biological father is higher than lesbian couples because it requires the assistance of an egg donor and a gestational carrier. The cost of surrogacy, including IVF for gay men can range from $90,000 to upwards of $120,000. A study conducted by the non-profit advocacy and support group, Men Having Babies, found that gay couples spend on average $120,000 on their parenthood journey and many under estimated the cost associated with family building.

Costs for becoming pregnant may include finding and choosing a donor egg from either CT Fertility’s on-site egg donation program or a donor egg agency or a frozen egg bank.

In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate carries a child conceived of the egg from an egg donor and the sperm of the intended father. The egg and sperm are fertilized and transferred, via IVF, into the gestational carrier. Once your gestational carrier has become pregnant you’re well on your way to bringing your baby home! However, there are additional costs during pregnancy which will be discussed by your surrogacy agency.
